You've all heard it before...
Yep, me included. But haven't even gotten a glimpse of a single frame from the movie til today.
After our Good Friday sojourn to Church for the Veneration of the Cross, I was stuck in front of the
tv with a pesky though mild and tolerable headache. I landed on the local channel showing
Himala... you know the movie which stars Nora
Aunor as a seer.
It was good alright... in a creepy sorta way. It showed how hungry the human race is for miracles and such. But are miracles all there is to faith?
The movie also hit home a premise I've been deliberating in my head for quite a while. We Filipinos proclaim ourselves as the only Christian nation in Asia. Again I ask, how substantial is the faith that we so proudly herald for all to hear? Every town in this country has a patron and a feast day venerating that particular guardian. After the festivities have died down, though, what is left? Don't get me wrong. I do admire the Filipino's strong belief in God's providence and His hand in our daily lives which brings about our resilience in face of all trials. The Nation of Smiles is brought about by this, I believe.
XD But there is a line between faith and fanaticism. And we, my friends, are treading that line.
Faith without transformation is meaningless. Faith should transcend
religiosity and flow into actual deeds of love and kindness towards those we meet and interact with daily.
Now if only each Filipino would actually live his faith...
